traversata trekking amorgos greece

If the answer is NO I would say we are already starting off on the right foot! The beauty of this island is also linked to its characteristic of being outside the most popular tourist circuits. The colors found in this small piece of land in the middle of the Aegean Sea are unique!

The good fortune of being able to get to know it by walking allows us to cross it completely with a backpack on our shoulders, among enchanting views, monasteries overlooking the sea, between a Greek café and a delicious tavern that awaits us upon arrival.

Program

Amorgos...if you don't know it, let's start off on the right foot! Beautiful, distant, difficult to reach, authentic, true, outside the most famous tourist circuits .

An atmosphere that takes you back in time , among elderly people sitting in front of houses, playing cards at the bar, donkeys going up and down the alleys of the villages, people picking marjoram, free smiles.
If you manage to set foot on this island it will be very difficult to go home without crying...

The Amorgos Crossing allows you to touch a large part of the island with your eyes and feet, passing from south-west Kalotaritissa to north-east Tolaria.

Detail

Day 1 – Piraeus-Amorgos ferry (directions for reservations will follow) where a taxi will take us to the start of our adventure: Arkesini. Room accommodation and walking. Today's walk takes us towards the westernmost part of the island, Kalotaritissa beach, passing by to see the wreck of Olympia , and climbing up the mountain to return "home" (10km, 300m difference in altitude +). Possibility to swim. Dinner in a delicious typical tavern.

Day 2- The itinerant crossing begins : we leave Arkesini to head towards Katapola (15km, 500m difference in altitude +). A spectacularly mixed itinerary between panoramic views, donkeys and rocks takes us first to Ancient Arkesini , then above Katapola, one of the two ports of the island. After having filled our eyes with this panoramic view, we go down to the port to have lunch in the early afternoon in a small tavern. We are in Amorgos and times don't matter here. Coffee and free time for swimming while we admire some small sailing boats moored in the port.

Day 3 - Breakfast in a cafenion before putting the backpack back on our shoulders: a short but intense climb takes us to the roof of the island, up there where the old windmills dominate. Lunch in the backpack, we head downhill towards the famous Sant´Anna beach with the wedding church, before going up to the spectacular monastery of Hozoviotissa, the most photographed view of the island . Imagine a white monastery nestled among the rocks of the mountain, in front of you the sea to dominate, below you many kittens and white stairs to reach it. We go back up to the Chora , a view of the sunset before going down to refresh ourselves among the alleys of this small village colored in light blue and fuchsia with bougainvillea . Fingers crossed and we hope to find live Greek music. (10km, 700m difference in altitude +)

Day 4- Long and intense day. After breakfast in the small Chora bar and shopping for an itinerant lunch. Today we cross the island in its narrowest part from Chora to reach Aegiali, the second port of the island. Walking overlooking the sea, with the wind in our faces, we reach uninhabited places, where goats and donkeys dominate the rocks. Several steps down take us to the destination: optional aperitif/toast and swimming in the sea . Last km to reach our accommodation in Toularia , a tiny village from which it is possible to see the sunset . Dinner at a delicious typical tavern . (17km, 700m difference in altitude +)

Last looks at this island that knows how to conquer, at its slow rhythm that gets into your bones, at its colors printed vividly in your mind, the smiles of the elderly, the donkeys that bray and keep you company: goodbye Amorgos! You are Beautifully True!

Ferry to Athens Seajets 1.30pm-8.55pm from Katapola to Athens Piraeus (reservation directions will follow)

Pernottamenti saranno in camere matrimoniali/triple/quadr in studios.

The program is indicative. The environmental hiking guide has the right to change the program at any time for safety and logistical reasons.

Any "improvised" activities will be carried out according to possibilities, which is why they are not mentioned in the program. It is part of the beauty of traveling to this island which is a way of life more than a place.

Your Guide

Claudia, founder of Lasca la Randa: Environmental hiking guide licensed under the law.

An expert leader of groups on trekking excursions, she particularly loves these places such as Greece in the periods outside the other season: this is why she continues to accompany you on these adventures, full of anecdotes, stories from local people, surprises not announced in the program. He always searches for the essence of places, especially if they are islands, after all, we reflect ourselves a bit.

He loves going on excursions, even long ones, laughing, making you reflect on the beauty of the slow rhythms that the islands have out of season. He loves animals, he always carries food for cats and dogs that he meets along the paths in his backpack!

She loves Greece, a place of escape during her personal travels, she loves Amorgos so simple and true.

Trekking consigliatissimo!

I participated in the New Year's trek in Pantelleria. It wasn't just a holiday but it was a real journey. The information received by telephone from Claudia immediately gave me the impression of a well thought out and structured formula but in an informal mood. Happy to have decided to overcome the resistance of leaving alone, or without knowing anyone, once I landed in Pantelleria it was all a succession of positivity. Enchanting and ancestral places, changing and varied (from the peaks to the coasts) were the backdrop to six days of well-being, laughter and silence, sharing and reflection, effort and rest. Our group blended very well right from the start and for this thanks to Claudia and Roberto for the incessant and tireless desire to convey the essence of the island but above all for having been able to create a relational climate which was the true success of this Pantelleria 23/34. I like to think that we all came back from there a little better. Team Rotwalli🩶

I have participated in several trips with Lasca La Randa, both velatrekking and New Year's Eve trekking in Pantelleria and I understood that when you leave with Claudia and Roberto it will not be "just" a trip but a unique and special experience. You find yourself living in an almost surreal world, not only made up of landscapes, unforgettable sunsets, trekking between mountains and cliffs, swimming in crystal clear waters, but also immersed in the local way of life, going to discover its characters, food and traditions . It's a profound journey, which ties you to the place you visit and the people you visit it with and helps you get to know yourself better. Claudia and Roberto have the ability to unite the participants who, although they have just met, find themselves experiencing the same emotions... nothing is left to chance, sharing comes first, and in an instant the group becomes close-knit. Every trip I have taken has been unique and has won a piece of my heart. A particular love goes to velatrekking, absolutely worth trying! Swimming at dawn before leaving for the excursion, Roberto coming to pick you up in a cove after the effort of trekking and enjoying the aperitif and the sunset in the middle of the sea, spotting dolphins and living in harmony with the sea have not price! There is only one downside to all this: it's addictive... as soon as you get back you can't wait to book another trip!!!

Girls, don't think about it too much, hurry up and book! Trust Claudia and Roberto: they will take you to magical places, they will introduce you to extraordinary people and you will participate in unique emotions that will make you (re)discover nature, humanity and the sustainability of travel, the beautiful ones!! Anyone who has been lucky enough to travel with them and their groups knows exactly what I'm talking about! Few excuses: ready, set off... have a good trip!! Thanks Claudia, see you soon :)

By now I can define myself as a regular at Lasca la Randa (or a fan?). Whether it's a summer velatrek, a trekking trip or a day excursion in Tuscany, Claudia manages to make the experience special and create groups of strangers who at the end of the trip or the day seem to have known each other all their lives.

Claudia, great guide, positive person in every sense. From her words and the way she leads you along the paths, all her love for nature shines through, furthermore, given that sometimes when venturing into trekking we might run into some unforeseen events, she does not neglect anything for the purposes of the safety of the participants. Her backpack and her mind are like a magician's top hat from which she pulls out surprises, but unlike the top hat the ones that come out of her are real and not illusions. GOOD AND PREPARED!

When destiny, destiny, are on your side you happen to meet people like Roberto and Claudia. A trip to celebrate an important birthday allowed us to meet this couple of eco-sustainable sailing and excursion professionals. Our experience was limited to sailing, and Roberto is a great skipper, but we were also able to enjoy the exceptional cuisine and impeccable service provided by Claudia and Roberto himself. They made our holiday unforgettable with professionalism and discretion, but they were able to bond with us in an incredible way. The added value of Lasca la Randa is precisely the two of them. The MMTeam have no words to thank you.

Claudia is the hiking guide you wouldn't expect. I have done more than one daily trekking excursion with her and I will do as many again. With Claudia there is no shortage of professionalism, kindness and a lot of friendliness. What makes her unique is her tireless love for the protection of animals and the environment that surrounds us and her unfailing attentive look towards life understood as a journey to rediscover our true inner values, against the current, which perhaps may not correspond to what society would have wanted for us, or what we ourselves believed we wanted for ourselves, but which if we manage to follow them, will lead us towards immeasurable happiness. This is what Claudia did with her life and this she brings to her travels, absolutely worth trying! Loose the mainsail is much more than a hiking guide, it's a movement. ⛵
