To get to know the island of Elba beyond the sea, you need to walk, talk, meet and eat/stop in places away from classic tourism.
This is why in this gastro-travel you will also get to know the food, served and cooked excellently by all three structures where we will be staying. There will also be some small surprises brought by Claudia, the guide, during the trekking excursions.
Day 1 – 20 km altitude difference + 1050 m
Meeting at 9am Cavo, Elba Island (Piombino-Cavo ferry to be booked with our discount code)
The Great Elba Crossing finally begins! Leaving Cavo behind us, we will immediately begin to rise in altitude, reaching 350 meters above sea level at the Montegrosso traffic light, an ancient military post from which we will have a wonderful view of the Elban coast. The itinerary is very scenic and intense.
A continuous ups and downs will take us to two of the most panoramic points of the entire island: the summit of Monte Strega and the spectacular view towards the top of Volterraio . A long descent immersed in the countryside of the island will take us to our beautiful farmhouse, where wine and local food cooked by expert hands awaits us.
Day 2 – 20 km altitude difference + 890 m
The second stage of the GTE develops on the beautiful central ridge of the island, which takes us to know the vegetation of the island. On the left we will have the Gulf of Lacona, on the right the town of Portoferraio immersed in thick Mediterranean scrub . We will learn about the fascinating history that links Napoleon to Elba, passing close to the Napoleonic church of San Martino. A very intense climb takes us in a few meters to Monte Perone, where we relax in the shade before descending towards our next farmhouse. We are completely immersed in the woods, in one of the most exclusive environments on the island, surrounded by Mouflons and silence. A surprising dinner awaits us among anecdotes and passions told by the wise Andrea.
Day 3 – 16 km difference in altitude 930 m
Here we are at the big day!
Weather permitting, a deviation from the GTE with a consecutive climb up to Monte Capanne awaits us in the morning, a toast at the top of 1019m with a panoramic view before descending towards Marciana, a characteristic Elban village where the typical beer will refresh us. The last kilometers of enthusiasm, satisfaction and small deviations from the GTE lead us to finish the GTE Nord in Patresi. A lighthouse in front of us to show us the way, tiredness and joy of being sitting at the bar of our seafront hotel watching the sunset.
Day 4 – 3km 150m
Delicious breakfast before stretching your legs to reach the sea of Patresi, approaching the Punta Polveraia lighthouse.
Return to Portoferraio for the final farewell (bus or NCC depending on the arrival time)
Goodbye Elba
