Which winter treks?

Some may mistakenly think that trekking is a purely spring activity, as if there was a trekking season and that wasn't! This is not the case: trekking can be carried out in all seasons, clearly paying attention to the necessary equipment based on the destination.

Without prejudice to the fact that awareness is needed in the choice of the itinerary, the destination and the period, in the evaluation of the hours of light, based on one's predisposition, technical preparation and equipment (headlamp essential for every eventuality and gloves), the winter season lends itself good for many daily but also longer adventures.

First of all, winter allows you to see a destination away from the high tourist season (especially if like us you focus on unusual destinations ).

Activities on the snow are well suited to daily excursions, as long as there is no ice, for which you need special equipment of crampons as well as experience. More and more frequent are the proposals with snowshoes in the snow, which however, as those who know me well know, we do not propose because we love sinking into the snow, having to struggle and experiencing the adventure without the aid of snowshoes.

The snow then has an unprecedented advantage: it allows you to highlight the traces of wild animals . Once I even happened to come across the footprints of the wild cat, making quite a few jumps for joy!!

In addition to the classic snow, trekking excursions can also be planned in the medium mountains, or even near the sea, trying to find moderate temperatures.

You know well that Lasca la Randa loves trekking everywhere as long as you can see the sea, even more so if in authentic destinations far from the chaos

List of 6 walks that can also be done in winter:

  • Santa Barbara mining route , Sardinia: itinerant.
  • Pantelleria, Sicily : permanent . Difficulty in finding accommodation facilities, however if with an organized trip you can immerse yourself in the true Pantelleria atmosphere, light years away from the summer one. We organize all New Year's Eve trekking trips to Pantelleria .
  • Route of the two seas, Puglia: itinerant. Length: 136 km Departure: Polignano a Mare
    Arrival: Taranto
  • Marettimo, Sicily : permanent. It is very difficult to find hotel facilities and find open places, we recommend if you are self-managed to stay overnight in Favignana, while if you are on an organized trip you can rely on your guide. We love this island all year round, it is the paradise of trekking on the sea and slow life. To choose this winter destination you must be a true lover of trekking, sea and silence.
  • Great crossing of Elba, Tuscany : itinerant. About 56 km with over 3000m of positive altitude difference, it is one of the most beautiful itinerant treks we know: intense, short, panoramic. Please note that there are no water stops during the itinerary, plan to gradually descend to the neighboring towns to refuel during the stops if necessary, otherwise stock up ADEQUATELY every morning in the place of overnight stay. In our opinion it can be organized in 3 or 4 stages. If you can find facilities along the way, 3 days is enough. Lasca la Randa likes to include various detours and above all the climb to the 1019m peak of Monte Capanne, however it is not obligatory. If, however, you cannot find overnight stays along the itinerary, you may need to include an additional day and you must choose to sleep in seaside towns, for example Porto Azzurro and Procchio, or Marina di Campo. To you the choice. We love doing it in 3 days and booking structures so good that we call it the Grande GASTRO Elba crossing! We remind you that the GTE can be North or South, depending on whether the itinerary is Cavo-Patresi or Cavo-Pomonte. Always equip yourself with a paper map and study everything carefully before leaving, if you are without an environmental guide.
  • Lighthouse walk, Elba : itinerant. Our new addition is a recently created path that runs alongside all the lighthouses of the island and its traffic lights. The itinerary can be divided into 6 stages, however we like to break it into two 3-day sections.
  • Lanzarote Gr 131, Spain : itinerant. Cross Lanzarote from north to south along the natural path marked as GR®131 (Órzola – Playa Blanca stage), approximately 72km with approximately 1500m of positive altitude difference. A fascinating path where the landscape surprises and varies continuously, highlighting black stretches and light beaches, highlighting its volcanic nature. Very suitable for the winter period due to its cold temperatures.

We also suggest the Fisherman trail of Portugal, Mallorca Gr221 paying attention to the altitudes of some sections, and Liguria which offers a vast network of trails and which given its proximity can also be organized last minute.
